Obviously, I didn't keep my blog up while on our trip!!! So, here it is - a few days at a time.

I was REALLY moved while reading Lincoln's second inaugural address - knowing how long it would actually be before all men were considered equal!!

So, early Sunday morning, April 8, we took a taxi back to the airport and picked up our rental car. We then drove to Centerville, VA and attended church at the Clifton Ward - "Hey, Cliftons!" After church, before going on to our first site, we stopped at Walmart and bought gloves - after spending the day in DC with frozen digits!
We visited the Manassas National Battlefield Park [or Bull Run] in Virginia. There is such a reverent, somber spirit at battlefields. We enjoyed the visit and it made us very thoughtful.
This is the home of Judith Carter Henry who was the only civilian killed in the first battle of Bull Run. She refused to be moved to a safer location and her home was hit by artillery fire, killing her.
Following our lunch we drove to Richmond, VA where we had a quick tour of the Tredegar Iron Works - where they made cannons and artillery for the war.
It was early evening by then so we did a drive-by of the Chimborazo Hospital.
And the Confederate White House in Richmond:
There was absolutely no parking so Kent got out and I kept pulling in and out of a hospital parking lot next door. Fun times!!
Our day ended at a Best Western.
These are great pictures! David and I would like to do a Civil War tour. I had two great-great grandfathers and one great-grandfather who fought in the civil war. My great-grandmother's two half brothers fought, too. One of them died in the war. Thanks for sharing these! Linda Downie
